“The Veiled Crown” is a textile sculpture created from reclaimed denim, soft chunky wool yarn, and metallic gold thread. Through hand-based fibre techniques — sewing, embroidery, knitting, macramé, appliqué, and drawing on textile — discarded material is transformed into a work of reflection.
The crown represents what material objects promise: usefulness, pleasure, identity, comfort, and status. It reflects how individuals and industries benefit from the continual production and circulation of goods, and how possessions shape desire and self-worth. Elevated and ornamental, the crown embodies the allure and rewards of consumption.
The veil marks the shift from purpose and profit into peril. It speaks to the illusion of clarity within systems of production and accumulation — the belief that we remain aware and in control. Yet excess gradually obscures judgment. Profit narrows vision; comfort limits responsibility. What begins as useful and desirable can distort perception, blinding us to consequence and reshaping how we see.
